“What is Trauma Informed?” - Kelly Wright
11:00 am Breakout Session I-Foster and Adoptive Perspective Sensitivity Training
Birth to Elementary - Zoey Harp
This session will explore multiple aspects of ministering safely to foster and adopted children within your congregation. Specifically, topics to be discussed include the importance of enhanced safety planning, understanding and implementing behavior plans, inclusion in mainstream activities, and how to train trauma-informed volunteers.
Youth - Connor LaBlanc
In this session, those who work with 5th-12th graders will learn specific things to look for/ways to minister to students who have been adopted and/or are in foster care. This session will focus on understanding leader/student relationships with kids from hard places, cultivating healthy friendships with this specific population of students within your youth group, and discerning how trauma can hinder these students’ views of the gospel.
Parents - Justin Oberndorfer
This session is designed for those working with foster and adoptive parents and families as a whole, specifically focusing on the importance of trauma-informed language around foster/adoptive children, the need for respite and other wrap-around services, and how to best support families who are dealing with children who have experienced high levels of trauma.

When ministering to families of foster/adoptive children, it is important to understand the causes and effects of secondary trauma. This session will define this as well as address how to best support families in your congregation who are experiencing it.
